1. Summary
Trailcall is a push-to-talk walkie-talkie that works directly between nearby phones. There is no Trailcall server and no account. We, VR Moby, do not run any server that receives your voice, name, channel or location.
Data leaves your device in three ways: your voice, name, channel and (only when you choose) your location go directly to nearby phones on your channel; Google's advertising service (free version) processes certain device data as described in section 8; and Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics process usage and crash data as described in section 11.
2. Voice and microphone
The microphone is used only while you hold the talk button. Your audio travels directly from phone to phone over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to people on the same channel and PIN. It is not sent to, or stored on, any server.
For the replay feature, the last 20 received messages are cached on your device only. They are deleted when you clear the app's data or cache, or when you uninstall Trailcall.
3. Name and channel
The display name you type, your channel number and a short code derived from your PIN are broadcast to nearby devices so that phones on the same channel can find each other. Anyone nearby running Trailcall may be able to see this name. This information is stored only on your device.
4. Nearby devices, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi permissions
These permissions are used only to find nearby phones and connect to them. On Android 12 and lower, the system groups this capability under the location permission; Trailcall does not read your location for this purpose.
5. Location
Your location (GPS) is used only when you tap one of these: "Mark this point" (saves a point on your device), "Send my location", "Share with channel" (sends a saved point) or "Live location" (Trailcall Plus; sends your position about every 10 seconds while you are in the channel and until you turn it off or leave).
When you send it, your position (coordinates, accuracy, time) travels directly from phone to phone to the people on the same channel and PIN. It is never sent to, or stored on, any server, and it is not sent to Firebase or the advertising service. Phones that receive it keep it only in memory for the current session. Saved points stay only on your device.
6. Camera
The camera is used only to scan an invite QR code. No images are stored or sent.
7. Notifications
Trailcall shows an ongoing notification while you are in a channel, so the walkie-talkie keeps working with the screen off and you can always see that it is active.
8. Advertising (free version)
The free version shows ads provided by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Ltd. for users in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland; Google LLC elsewhere). To show and measure ads, Google may collect device identifiers (such as the advertising ID), your IP address, an approximate location derived from the IP address, and ad interaction and diagnostic data. This data goes to Google, not to VR Moby.
Where required (in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, under the GDPR and UK GDPR), your consent is requested through Google's User Messaging Platform before personalised ads are shown.
How Google uses data from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android under Settings > Google > Ads (on some devices: Settings > Privacy > Ads).
Trailcall Plus removes ads. With Trailcall Plus active, the ads SDK is not started.
9. Purchases
Trailcall Plus purchases are handled by Google Play Billing. VR Moby receives no payment card data. Your purchase status is cached on your device so that Plus features work offline.
10. Install referrer
If you install Trailcall from an invite QR code or an invite link, the Play Install Referrer is read once on your device to prefill the channel and PIN, or to remember the inviter's code. That code (a random 8-character device identifier, not a name) is sent only to nearby phones on your channel so the inviter can receive their reward; it is not sent to any server. The install event is recorded in Firebase Analytics (section 11).
11. Analytics and crash reporting (Firebase)
Trailcall uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used (for example: first successful connection, first push-to-talk, opening the Plus screen, sending or receiving a location, invites and purchases) and Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports. These services, provided by Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd., collect a random app-instance identifier, device model and OS version, app version, language, country derived from IP address, event timestamps, and for crashes a stack trace and device state. Voice, names, channel numbers, PINs and coordinates are never sent to Firebase.
Analytics data is collected only after you give consent where consent is required (EEA, UK, Switzerland) through the same consent form as in section 8; until then the Analytics "consent mode" keeps storage and personalization off. You can change your choice later under Settings → Ad privacy options. How Google uses this data: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Data is retained by Firebase for up to 14 months (Analytics) and 90 days (Crashlytics).
12. Children
Trailcall is not directed to children under 13, or under the applicable age of digital consent in your country.
13. Data retention and deletion
Everything Trailcall stores is on your device: your name, channel and PIN, settings, marked points, cached messages and purchase status. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data, removes it. There is nothing for us to delete on a server, because we have no server.
14. Your rights, contact and changes
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority. Because VR Moby holds no data about you, you can exercise most of these rights directly on your device. For data processed by Google for advertising, please use Google's tools and the links above.
